Hale Friesen, LLP regularly represents private landowners in highly complex eminent domain and urban renewal proceedings in order to ensure their rights are protected, the condemnation is for a necessary and important public purpose, and that they are able to obtain just compensation for their property. Our attorneys are frequent lecturers and authors on various topics of eminent domain and urban renewal laws. The eminent domain group defends property owners in condemnation suits in a variety of contexts. The group also has extensive expertise in valuation issues.

  • Represented 32 landowners living just north of the airport in an inverse condemnation action arising from aircraft noise and vibrations.
  • Successful assisted our client in resisting the condemnation of a family's 70-employee car dealership in Northglenn. As a result of our efforts, this client was able to avoid litigation and change from lessee to owner of the dealership. Eventually, this client gained approval for the redevelopment and expansion of his dealership.
  • Represented an entity that owned approximately 360 acres of land in Gunnison County, Colorado, adjacent to the City of Gunnison. Gunnison County sought to condemn approximately 50 acres of this property to expand its airport runway, which is adjacent to our client's property. Our client was in the final stages of annexing the property to the City of Gunnison for various public and private development purposes. We were successful in obtaining a jury verdict for our client that was more than three times the amount offered by Gunnison County as compensation.

Excellent legal work is the result of teamwork. To us, teamwork means several things. Creative legal work is not the product of a single skillful, dedicated lawyer. Lawyers, like other professionals, need to test their work, be it their first hunch or their final appellate brief. We test ours through critique and collaboration. Our lawyers are encouraged to work together openly to produce the absolute best legal work. While we are mindful of avoiding needless duplication, our experience shows that when lawyers work efficiently together, the result is legal work that far exceeds what a single lawyer, no matter how brilliant, can produce working alone. Although there will always be a partner directly responsible for a client, excellent legal work requires associate attorneys, experienced paralegals and dedicated support staff. Working as a team with the effective supervision of a partner, we deliver accurate legal advice more quickly and with less expense to the client.
